Goethe, Johann Wolfgang - Oratorio Faust

Year: 1999Genre: Oratorio

The oratorio Faust by Prince Antoni Henryk Radziwiłł (1775–1833) is a large-scale musical work based on the text of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Radziwiłł, a music patron and friend of Goethe, created one of the earliest musical interpretations of Faust, highly praised by the poet himself, and worked on it for more than twenty years.

Music: Antoni Henryk Radziwiłł.
Libretto: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Although often referred to as an opera, the work is closer to a dramatic cantata or oratorio for soloists, choir, and orchestra.
Goethe valued the composition highly and regarded it as the finest musical interpretation of his Faust.
