Bible - Old and New Testament

Year: 2002Genre: Religion

The translation of the Bible into Belarusian represents Vasil Siomukha's life work, a project he undertook from the late 1980s. It stands as one of the most significant translations of the Holy Scripture into Belarusian, distinguished by its rich and authentic Belarusian vocabulary.

Vasil Siomukha sought to preserve the spiritual depth of the original while conveying the text in living, accessible Belarusian. The translator deliberately avoided Russian loanwords and Church Slavonicisms where native Belarusian words existed, making this translation particularly valuable for the preservation and development of the Belarusian literary language.

The translation encompasses both the Old and New Testaments and constitutes an important contribution to Belarusian cultural heritage.

The translation was blessed by Mitropolit Mikalaj, First Hierarch of the Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, for use in the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
